Title
"We out here, We been here, We ain't leaving, We are loved." - The March of Resilience
Subject
The fall semester of 2015 represented a tumultuous time for Indigenous students and students of color as they were thrust into a moment of activism wrought with intense emotional and physical labor. On November 9, 2015, the March of Resilience invoked a change in dialogue as Indigenous students and students of color centered themselves. These student activists demonstrated their power, strength, and solidarity as they marched from the African-American Cultural Center to Cross Campus. On the March's route, more Indigenous students and students of color joined in on the rally as they passed the three other cultural centers. The March of Resilience also passed Sigma Alpha Epilson, the infamous Oct. 30 site where fraternity members denied entrance to a female student of color, stating that the party was "for white girls only." Once reaching Cross Campus, student groups such as Blue Feather, Shades, and UNITY delivered performances focusing on healing and student activists spoke about the importance of unity, solidarity, and student power. Throughout the rally, students held a sign and chanted the words of Micah Jones ('16) that illuminated their resistance - "We out here, We been here, We ain't leaving, We are loved."
